Body Mass Index – Measuring Body Fat is as Easy as 1-2-3

Per the World Health Organization (WHO), “Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple index of weight-for-height that is commonly used to classify underweight, overweight and obesity in adults. It is defined as the weight in kilograms divided by the square of the height in metres (kg/m2). For example, an adult who weighs 70kg and whose height is 1.75m will have a BMI of 22.9.” (Our calculator takes care of converting kg to pounds and meters to inches, if desired.)

Many governmental and medical organizations express the usefulness of a Body Mass Index Calculator, including the National Institutes of Health, the Mayo Clinic, Medical News Today and more.

It’s important to note that BMI calculations are not an indication of overall health. Therefore, someone with a normal BMI is not necessarily healthier than someone who’s defined as overweight, as many factors contribute to health. Also, keep in mind that factors like muscle mass can alter the results.
